SLA abducts 2 youths, 1 adult in Jaffna

Sri Lanka Army (SLA) soldiers and collaborating paramilitaries abducted a 52-year old man from his home in Tellipallai Monday, sources in Jaffna said. Meanwhile, two youths were abducted Friday evening from Mallakam area in Jaffna. Relatives of the victims have registered the three cases at the Human Rights Commission in Jaffna.

An armed solider of the SLA intelligence wing entered the house of K Suntharalingam, 52, from Pannalai in Tellipallai and forcefully took him in a white van early morning Monday, his relatives said.

When the relatives inquired at the closeby Pannalai camp of the SLA, the officials have said that they were not aware of any arrests, relatives said.

Meanwhile, Sritharan Kannan, 22, who was returning after a painting job, was abducted by SLA soldiers who arrived in motorbikes at 5:30 p.m. Friday in Mallakam.

Kannan was displaced from Valigamam North and was residing in Konappalam Lane in Mallakam.

Officials at the Alaveddy SLA camp had told Kannan's parents that they had no information of any arrests, sources said.

In another incident, SLA soldiers arriving in a white van, entered the home of Valyutham Gajendran located near the SLA camp in Mallakam Courts Road at 12:00 a.m. Friday midnight, and abducted him.

Gajendran, 27, is an employee at the library of the Valigamam North Pradeshya Sabha in Mallakam office, sources said.
