Civilian shot dead in Vadamarachchy

Unidentified gunmen abducted a civilian from Satkoddai, a coastal village in Vadamarachchy north region in Jaffna district on Monday and shot him dead near a temple in Samarapahu, Karaveddi in the same region around 2:45 pm, civil sources said. He is the third person killed in Vadamarachchy region within 48 hours and one other person was injured in different incidents.

The dead person was identified as S. Thevarasa, 50, and his body was taken to Point Pedro hospital for autopsy Tuesday morning.

Even though he was abducted on Monday, his corpse was found out only on Tuesday, the people of the area said. Though they had heard the sound of gunshots on the previous afternoon, they kept indoor, out of fear.
