Vavuniya identification parade postponed[TamilNet, Wednesday, 06 December 2006, 02:22 GMT]Manickavasagar Ilancheliyan, Vavuniya District Magistrate, postponed the identification parade related to the killing of five students of Thandikulam School of Agriculture originally scheduled to be held Tuesday, to December 19, legal sources in Vavuniya said. The students were shot at point blank range on November 18, when the Sri Lanka Army (SLA) soldiers manning a check point at Soya lane, 100 meters away from the school, stormed the premises after a claymore blast in the area killed five troopers and injured four soldiers. The parade to identify a soldier and a policeman accused of being involved in the incident was postponed due to the inability of an officer of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) to appear for the inquiry, and key witnesses afflicted with a bout of depression, legal sources said. The request to the Magistrate to release the two suspects on bail was turned down.
