Two SLA troopers killed in claymore attack, a civilian shot dead in Vavuniya

Unidentified persons triggered a claymore device Wednesday around 7:45 p.m on the Chettikulam-Madavadchi road in Vavuniya killing two Sri Lanka Army (SLA) troopers on the spot and in a separate incident on the same night around 7:30 p.m, unidentified armed men shot dead a civilian at Sasthrikoolankulam in Vavuniya, the police in Vavuniya said.

The clay more attack was made on the tractor taking dinner to the SLA soldiers manning the sentry posts along the said road.

The civilian shot dead at Sasthirikoolankulam was identified as Thankarasa Pirabaharan.

Motive of the killing is not known, the police said.

Meanwhile, unidentified armed men opened fire on the police sentry post Thursday noon in Maharambaikulam area in Vavuniya seriously injuring a policeman.

The injured policeman was first rushed to Vavuniya hospital and later transferred to Anuradapura hospital for intensive treatment, the police added.
