Two civilians, a teen-ager studying in high school, and a fish trader were shot dead by unknown gunmen in two separate incidents on Friday night and Saturday morning in Jaffna district, sources in Jaffna said. Bodies of both victims have been taken to the Jaffna Teaching Hospital for postmortem examinations, hospital sources said.

Gunmen who went to the home of GCE (Advanced Level) student, Monoharan Paranthaman, 17, in Madduvil East Chavakachcheri, at 7:00 p.m. Friday, called the student out of this house and shot him at close range, Paranthaman's parents said.

The gunmen beat the family members who tried to stop the gunmen from shooting the victim.

Chavakachcheri Police is conduction investigations into the killing.

Meanwhile, Selliah Thiagarasa, 57, and a father of six children, from Kikirai Kulam in Araly Jaffna was walking towards Sangarathai Market to buy fish at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, when unknown gunmen who followed him shot him at close range and escaped.

Vaddukoddai Police recovered the body and transferred it to the Jaffna Teaching Hospital.
