More UNP defections expected this week

Ten more United National Party dissident parliamentarians are expected to cross over to the UPFA-government in the coming days, according to informed political sources in Colombo.

Four parliamentarians are expected to cross over to the government side when parliament meets on Tuesday.

These parliamentarians have been identified as Ranjit Mathuma Bandara, G.Harrison, Chandrani Bandara and Champika. They have already met Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapakse and have come to agreement with him in joining the United Peoples Freedom Alliance (UPFA) government.

Meanwhile a group of six more UNP parliamentarians are expected to join the UPFA during the weekend.

In the meantime, Rajapakse government is to table a motion to extend the state of Emergency for another month on Wednesday in parliament.
