Vessel Yala to carry Jaffna mail from Trinco

[TamilNet, Friday, 09 March 2007, 11:50 GMT]
The backlog of about six thousand parcels lying in the Trincomalee general post office and about two thousand such parcels expected to reach east port town from other parts are expected to be dispatched to Jaffna by a vessel "Yala" on March 13, said Trincomalee Post Master.

Meanwhile, Mr.M.K.Eelaventhan, Jaffna district Tamil National Alliance (TNA) parliamentarian, Thursday in parliament accused Minister of Posts and Telecommunication Mr.Rauff Hakeem for making false statement Wednesday that parcels lying in the Trincomalee post office had already been dispatched to Jaffna district.

Mr.Rauff Hakeem in reply requested the LTTE to co-operate in dispatching the backlog of parcels and mailbags by sea to Jaffna district.

The vessel Yala is currently anchored in Trincomalee harbour and is loading cement, sources said.

Since January 13 the dispatch of parcels from Trincomalee post office has come to a halt due to the non-availability of vessel. "However ten to fifteen bags containing letters are being sent in vessels taking food items and cement and other materials to Jaffna," said the Post Master.
