Court releases 8 Tamil detainees, SLN arrests 4 in Negombo

Colombo magistrate court Thursday and Friday released twelve civilians, eight of them Tamils, who were arrested in cordon and search operations in Colombo and its suburbs and detained in Boosa detention camp located in Galle in southern province. Meanwhile, Sri Lanka Navy (SLN) arrested four in Negombo suspected of attacking fishing boats, sources in Colombo said.
Ms L.Indrakumary, and Rasiah Tharshan, both aged 25, were arrested in cordon and search operations at Dehiwala. Both are natives of Jaffna district. These two were released Thursday. Singaraja Selvam, Arumugam Premavathy, Kiruban Kaliyammah and Veluchamy Rajanbabu were arrested in January in a cordon and search operation conducted in Mount Lavinia when they failed to prove their identity and justify their presence at the location. Details of the other two Tamils released are not yet available. In a separate incident SLN personnel arrested Ranjitkumar, Dhamikka Chinniah Lakshman Yootan, R.Fernando D.Fernando and V.J.Chamintha along the coast of Negombo following an attack on suspected fishing boats in western coast, sources said.
