The Sinhala nationalist Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) is to hold a district conference in Trincomalee Town Hall on March 28 evening as part of a series of meetings being held throughout the country educating the public regarding the current political situation. The theme of the conference is "Save the Motherland". One of the senior JVP leaders and a parliamentarian Mr.Wijitha Heart is to address Trincomalee conference, JVP sources in Colombo said.
JVP parliamentarian Mr.K.D.Lalkantha addressing a district conference in Nuwareliya Town Hall in the central province on Wednesday said the JVP ensured the victory of Mahinda Rajapakse as President in the 2005 presidential election as it did not want Ranil Wickremasinghe to win. Mahinda Rajapakse has now gone on his assurances to JVP according to Mahinda Chinthanaya to which JVP contributed its part, Lalkantha said. He added that corruption is rampant in the government machinery. Railway compartments and buses, which could be repaired and put into use, have been sold as scrap iron to hardware merchants. Several malpractices are taking place in ministries of labour, transport and sports. Except three, others in the ruling party have become ministers and deputy ministers. JVP dies not want to tarnish its name by joining this corrupt government, said Mr.Lal Kantha.
