Seven Sinhala villagers, including a boy and 6 women, all civilians, were shot and killed by unknown gunmen at Awaranthalawa, located 13 km southwest of Vavuniya around 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Police said.

The Sinhala villagers who were settled in the village before 1983, had resettled in the village after the Ceasefire Agreement in 2002.

The killings come a day after 3 Tamil civilians were gunned down in Vavuniya allegedly by paramilitary men.
