Woman beaten to death in Batticaloa, civilian knocked dead by army vehicle[TamilNet, Tuesday, 17 April 2007, 11:23 GMT]A 22-year-old woman, beaten to death, has been found buried at Paalaiyadiththoni in Santhivelin in Eravur Police division Monday morning. Meanwhile, a pedestrian was killed, knocked down by a speeding Sri Lanka Army (SLA) vehicle along Batticaloa Valiachenai Road at Maavadivaembu Monday. Another civilian was killed in a separate accident on the same road, Eravur Police said. The young woman, beaten to death, was identified as Kanthiah Manonmani alias Mala, 22, of Jeevapuram, Paalaiyadiththoni. Ms. Manonmani had been missing since Saturday after leaving her house. The relatives of the victim who went in search found her partly buried body in a shrub land next to a school Sunday and informed Eravur police. Dr. K. Sugumar performed the autopsy. Acting Magistrate Mr. Vinoba Indran is expected to conduct the inquest into death Wednesday in Batticaloa courts. Paalaiyadiththoni is situated 26 km northeast of Batticaloa city. Meanwhile, S. Kanthalingam, 66, of Uma Mill road, Kommanthurai was killed when a speeding SLA vehicle hit him at Maavadivembu. In a separate accident, a cyclist identified as Iqbal Sugumar, 28, a father of two , from Vishnukovil road in Kiran, died on the spot when a motorbike collided with him and the injured motorcyclist, Nagalingam Sureshkumar, 28, was rushed to Batticaloa Teaching hospital.
