Unidentified armed men abducted Friday a Tamil youth from his residence in School road, Peththalai, took him to Valaichenai, the nearby town 2 km away, and shot him dead around 11.00 p.m. along Vipulanantha Road in Valaichenai police division in Batticaloa district, police said.

The victim was identified as Thangarasa Vinoth, 27, a carpenter by profession.

Valaichenai police recovered the body Saturday morning and handed it over to Valaichenai Hospital for autopsy. The body was handed over to the relatives in the afternoon after the postmortem.

Police alleged that that person killed was a member of the intelligence unit of Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE)

Valaichenai is located 32 km north of Batticaloa.
