1 Police, 3 civilians killed in Vavuniya

One Sri Lanka Police constable was killed when unknown gunmen fired at the sentry point in Pampaimadu in Vavuniya Thursday morning Vavuniya police said. The gunmen escaped amid hail of return fire by the police said. Meanwhile, three bodies of civilians were recovered in two sites in Vavuniya Thursday morning, sources said.

Partially burnt bodies belonging to two males were recovered by Vavuniya police in Poovarasangku'lam- Cheddiku'lam junction area Thursday morning.

Identity of the two victims have not been established yet, police said.

Meanwhile, the unidentified body of a male victim with several gunshot wounds was recovered near Kallaathu bridge Thurday morning, Cheddiku'lam police said.

Vavuniya police said that the three victims were likely have been killed elsewhere and their bodies dumped at the two sites.

The bodies have been transferred to the Vavuniya General Hospital for postmortem examinations and identification.

5 civilians and one police constable have been killed in Vavuniya in the last two days.
