Armed men in civil, force entry, search Jaffna Campus

A gang of more than ten armed men in civil clothes, forcibly entered and searched Jaffna University (JU) campus, holding the security officer at gun point, Saturday around 1:00 a.m, sources in Jaffna said. The security officer was severely beaten and held by some of the armed men at gun point while the others searched the campus area for several hours.
The armed gang assaulted the security officer posted at the back entrance of JU through which they forced into the campus. The injured security officer notified Campus administration of the attack and registered complaints at Jaffna police station. Jaffna University administration has made arrangement for medical treatment of the injured security officer. The gang had remained inside and the vicinity of Jaffna campus for several hours before leaving. The intrusion by armed men into the student campus comes as the second of its kind after the intensive night search conducted by Sri Lanka Army (SLA) troopers in August 2006.
