LTTE hands over 5 SLA bodies to ICRC

Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) officials Monday around 1:30 p.m. handed over the bodies of five soldiers of the Sri Lanka Army (SLA) killed in action during a SLA initiated offensive Sunday, to a delegation of the International Committee of Red Cross (ICRC). The handing over event took place at Vaddakka'ndal where the LTTE Mannar (Mannaar) district political secretariat is located.
ICRC delegates thereafter handed over these bodies to SLA officials at Uyilangku'lam army check point located in Sri Lanka government held territory. The Tigers had recovered the bodies of five SLA soldiers during a search operation in their territory following a fierce fighting between SLA and LTTE Sunday from about 6:00 a.m. till 4:00 p.m. at Periya Thampanai and Pa'ndivirichchaan areas located in Madu DS Division. One AK-LMG, 40 mm rocket gun with shells, Seven T-56 automatic rifles, a Claymore mine, RPG ammunition, 28 hand grenades and 11 bullet-proof jackets, different ammunitions and military equipments were seized by the Tigers following a search operation in the area, LTTE officials in Mannaar told media Monday morning.
