Five persons die in boiler explosion in Kalmunai

Five workers were killed and another four were injured when a boiler exploded in a rice mill in Saainthamaruthu in Kalmunai police division Wednesday morning around 1:20 a.m., sources in Kalmunai said. Three died on the spot and later two succumbed to burn injuries at Kalmunai Ashraff Memorial Hospital in Ampaarai district.

One of the four persons now being undergoing treatment at Kalmunai hospital has been sent to Kandy general hospital as his condition has been reported very critical, medical sources said.

A transformer of the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) located near the mill had also been badly damaged in the explosion, sources said.
