The bodies of five youths, suspected to be paramilitaries belonging to breakaway faction of Karuna group, were recovered Wednesday afternoon around 5:00 p.m. buried in a wooded area three miles from Vairavan Temple road in the village of Kiraan, Earaavoor police said.
One of the victim has been identified as Sinthujan alias Johnson Jeyakanthan key karuna group operative, 31, father of one child. The remaining four bodies are yet to be identified .However one of them is believed to be that of Sinnathamby, who disappeared on the day Sinthujan was abducted . Sinthujan left his home in Periyakallaaru last Thursday (3rd May) informing his pregnant wife that he was going to Karuna group office located at Kaluvaagnchikkudi when he disappeared on his way. Sinthujans body recovered by Earaavoor police is kept at Earaavoor District hospital for post mortem examination and inquest. Meanwhile, the abduction and killing of Sinthujan, a key figure involved in many attacks in a number of locations including Kanchikudichchaaru and Kokkadichcholai, has created confusion among the splinter groups within Karuna group, according to sources in Batticaloa. The killing of Sinthujan, a close relative of Pillayaan, the commander of Karuna group, who recently broke away from Karuna and formed his own group, has resulted in a widening gap between the two groups. Last week a clash erupting inside the camp of Karuna group located near Bar Road Batticaloa resulted in two members of the group and a Muslim civilian getting injured. Kiraan is located 28 km north of Batticaloa on the main road to Valaichchenai.
