Batticaloa District IDPs to be resettled in June- GA

Civilians displaced from Paduvaankarai will be resettled starting from 14 June, Sundaram Arumainayagam, Batticaloa Government Agent (GA) said Saturday. A team headed by Mr.Arumainayagam after visiting Poara’theevu Saturday said that all prelimilinary activities for resettlement have been completed in schedule.
During the first stage of resettlement scheduled to be completed by 25 June, 3000 people from three villages will be resettled. The Internally Displaced Civilians (IDPS) from Aaraiyampathi and Batticaloa residing in temporary tents will first be brought to Ka'luvaagnchikkudi and then will be resettled in their own homes, through the assistance of Vellave’li District Secretariat(DS). The civilians will be provided with relief assistance on a continuous basis. Additional employees will be hired through the regional board to ensure supply of drinking water and also clean the wells in these areas. Meanwhile, the officials from Education Department have taken steps to reopen the schools even if they are damaged. The officials from Irrigation department are ready to arrange water supply required to commence cultivation. The farmers in the area have been informed by Sri Lankan Army (SLA) that they are permitted to begin their activities after registering in the military camps located in their villages, GA said.
