Youth, Samurthi officer shot dead in Ampaa'rai

Unidentified armed men shot dead a youth at his house Sunday around 3:00 a.m at 3rd division in Ka'n'nakipuram in Akkaraipattu police division in Ampaa'rai district and in a similar shooting, unknown gunmen shot and killed a Samurthi officer at Nattpddimunai area in Kalmunai police division in Amparai district Friday around 8:00 p.m, sources in Kalmunai said.
Murugesupillai Ananthan, 22, a labourer and the father of 2 children, was the youth shot dead. The killers had called him out of the house and opened fire on him. Ananthan's body is being kept at Akkaraipattu hospital and the police are investigating into the killing. Akkaraipattu is located 72 km south of Batticaloa. Meanwhile, the killed Samurthi officer was identified as Yogarasa Thivaharan, 38, the father of a child, from Nattpiddimunai. Thivaharan was rushed to Kalmunai hospital in a critical condition where he succumbed to his injuries. Originally from Karaitheevu, Thivaharan had married at Nattpiddimunai in Paa'ndiruppu and was employed at the Samurthi Tamil Section in Kalmunai. The gunmen called him out of his house and shot him dead. Kalmunai police who are investigating into the killing handed over the body to Thivaharan's family members, after the inquest into his death was completed. Kalmunai is located 34 km south of Batticaloa.
