[TamilNet, Wednesday, 16 May 2007, 00:50 GMT]
The United National Party (UNP), the main opposition party in Sri Lanka Parliament accused the Government for intimidating and threatening arrests of UNP parliamentarians who expose misdeeds of the ruling party politicians. Thayasri Jeyasekara, the UNP Member of Parliament (MP) for Kurunagala district, said Tuesday, in a Press Meeting held at the residence of the Leader of Opposition in Colombo, that the government's current target is Luxman Kiriyella, the UNP MP for Kandy district.
He denied the government's charges leveled against the Leader of Opposition, Ranil Wickremesinghe, for carrying out false propaganda against the government in foreign countries. Mr. Wickremesinghe was only involved in exposing the government's corruption and human rights violations, Mr Jeyasekara added.
