3 labourers shot dead in Vavuniyaa

Unidentified armed men abducted three labourers Thursday between 11:00 p.m and 1:00 a.m from their house at Kaaththaar Chinnakku'lam in Mahaa Rampaikku'lam area in Vavuniyaa and shot them dead, Vavuniyaa police said. The Police recovered their bodies and handed them over to Vavuniyaa General Hospital.

Subramaniam Chandrasegaran, 28, a father of two children, Sinnathurai Vigneswaran, 24, the father of a child and a six months old infant and Manamohan Mohanathas, 24, were identified as the persons killed.

The wives of the victims said, that the armed men who took away their husbands spoke fluent Tamil, in their statements at the inquest.

Vavuniya District Magistrate, Mr.M.Ilanchelziyan viewed these bodies and ordered post-mortem. He also conducted the inquest into the deaths at Vavuniya hospital, and directed the police to investigate into the killings and arrest the killers.

The magistrate also directed the police to hand over the bodies to the relatives.

He further ordered the Military Police to record the statements of the Officers in charge at the Sri Lanka Army camps at Veapangku'lam and Poonthoaddam.
