SLN shoots dead two fishermen in Kayts

Two fishermen from Thampaaddi area in Kayts were shot dead by Sri Lanka Navy (SLN) at 3:00 a.m. Firday, according to fisheries union officials. SLN had claimed that they shot dead two cadres of Liberation Tigers during a firefight at Kayts shores early morning.
Following notification by the SLN soldiers, Kayts Police and District Court Judge Jeyaraman Trotsky visited the site. The Judge directed the police to transfer the bodies to Jaffna Teaching Hospital for postmortem examination and identifications. Meanwhile, Jaffna Human Rights Commission (HRC) officials received complaints by relatives of two missing fishermen early morning Friday that Gnanaruban Rutson, 18, and Robert Thevathas, 32, who had gone fishing in high seas Thursday have been missing. The relatives later visited Jaffna Teaching Hospital and identified the bodies as belonging to Rutson and Thevathas, hospital sources said.
