Gunmen, SLA exchange fire near Uduppiddi SLA camp

Unidentified gunmen, after creating road blocks preventing movement of pedastrians and vehicular traffic near the Uduppiddi Sri Lanka Army (SLA) camp, sprayed gunfire towards the camp Friday afternoon. In a firefight lasting more than 15 minutes the soldiers returned fire at the attackers. Gunmen escaped from the scene after the attack according to sources. Details of injuries or casualties are not available.

The gunmen were positioned along the between Uduppiddi junction and the road leading to Vathiri junction during the attack.

SLA soldiers conducted a search operation in the area following the attack. No one was arrested in the search, according to residents.
