Court releases eight Tamils arrested in Colombo

Eight Tamil civilians including three members of the same family, all natives of Jaffna, were discharged by the Colombo Chief Magistrate Ms Kusala Sarojini Weerawardene Thursday when prosecution informed the court that they were not objecting the release of the detainees. The Fort Police arrested them on 6 May while staying in a lodge located along Dam Street in Colombo in a cordon and search operation, and later remanded by the Colombo court, sources said.
Thambirajah Anbarasan, Thambirajah Valarmugan, and their mother Thambirajah Paranjothy and other five persons Rajathurai Kamalathas, Sellan Ketheeswaran, Kanthasamy Ramanan, Vignarajah Kirithan and Jovan Chandrakumar, were released by the Court Thursday, legal sources said. The court was told that except Thambirajah Paranjothy, others had come to Colombo to go abroad.
