Sri Lanka Special Task Force (STF) members on a road patrol in Ka'luvanchchikkudi arrested two youths who were on a bicycle to visit their relatives in Ka'luvanchchikkudi from the refugee camp in KiranKu'lam in Batticaloa Friday morning, witnesses said. The two were arrested near Roksy Estate along the Eruvil Police station road.
However, the STF denied the arrest when the Batticaloa district Tamil National Alliance Parliamentarian P. Ariyaneththiran contacted the Officer in Charge (OIC) of the Ka'luvaagnchikkudi STF camp, Kunasekara. The Parliamentarian told the OIC that some people had witnessed the arrest. Kanthasamy Sivananthan, 22, from Kadukkaamunai and Sinthththurai Muhunthan, 17, of Ampilaanthu'rai, who had fled their homes due to the recent military offensive in Paduvaankarai area, were staying at Kiraanku'lam IDP camp. They were on their way to Eruvil when STF soldiers stopped them and arrested them after questioning, eyewitnesses said. Neither of the youths has returned to the IDP camp yet, relatives said.
