Postal services resume in Vellaaveli, Schools re-open in Poaratheevupattu

Postal services in Vellaave'li region has resumed after
the commencement of the resettlement of
the Internally displaced persons(IDPs) residing
in transit camps in Batticaloa district,
K.Kanagasunderam, Superintendent of postal
Services Batticaloa Division, said Monday.
The post office in Periya Poaratheevu, sub post
offices in Koayil Poaratheevu and
Munaiththeevu have been reopened and postal
distribution has resumed, he added. All arrangements have been completed to begin
postal services in Vellaave'li District, once
the civilians are resettled in stages. After the
displaced civilians are resettled in their places
of origin in Vellaave'li, Thiruppa'lukaamaththikkoadai,
Navakirinakar and Pakkiyalla all five sub post offices in the area will resume regular services, Mr.Kanagasunderam added. All efforts have been taken to provide postal services in
Batticaloa district amidst the recent
crisis caused by internal displacement of
civilians in the district, Mr.Kanagasunderam further said. Meanwhile, four schools out of 27 in
Poaratheevupattu Divisional Secretary (DS) area
in Paddiruppu Educational Zone -Koayilpoaratheevu
Vivekananda High School, Munaiththeevu Shakhty
School, Pazhukaamam Ka'nduma'ni High School,
Periyapoaratheevu Paarathi School have already been reopened from Thursday. However, although the principal and teachers reported for duty, no students attended, according to school officials.
