The Sinhala nationalist Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) is to hold a protest demonstration Wednesday in Colombo demanding the Sri Lanka's government led by President Mahinda Rajapakse to bring immediate halt to increasing corruption and other malpractices in the public sector, and to punish officials found guilty of corruption, political sources in Colombo said.
The demonstration will be held in front of the Fort Railway Station Wednesday evening at 4 p.m., party sources said. All parliamentarians of the JVP have been asked to participate in the protest. Representatives of JVP backed trade unions are also to attend the demonstration. JVP has 39 MPs and the third biggest political group in the current parliament.
