The National Trade Union Centre (NTUC) backed by the Jathika Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) has expressed dissatisfaction over the outcome of the talks held between the Sri Lanka President Mahinda Rajapakse and a delegation of trade union representatives in finding satisfactory solution to several demands including the removal of salary anomalies and restructuring the public sector salary scheme and other related problems, union sources in Colombo said.
The discussion was held at Temple Trees residence Friday. The NTUC said in a statement to media that the decision to launch a trade union struggle to win the demands of the working community has been strengthened after this discussion. The statement further said that the main demand to rectify salary anomalies and other problems related with workers' welfare had not been not given serious thought by Mr.Rajapakse during the discussion he had with TU representatives. Representatives of trade unions, Ministers Karu Jayasuriya and Athauda Seneviratne, veteran trade union leader and Western Provincial Governor Alavi Moulana, and Lionel Fernando, Chairman of the Salaries Commission attended the discussion.
