Special police unit formed to monitor anti-government activity

The Sri Lanka Police has formed a special unit to monitor the activities of politicians, industrialists, public servants, media personnel, trade union leaders and members of non-governmental organisations who express adverse opinions in regard to government's defence policy, development projects and law enforcement strategy, media reports in Colombo said Sunday quoting a senior police officer.

The reports further said this special unit has commenced functioning from last week.

The special police unit would collect information about the contacts of suspected persons and their activities and would take appropriate against those persons, the media report further said.
