Sri Lanka Army (SLA) soldiers carrying out security duty along A9 highway in Thenmaraadchi between Kodikaamam and Chaavakachcheri came under attack from unidentified armed men between 4:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. Monday, sources in Jaffna said. Local residents said they saw injured troopers being taken in military ambulances. The Jaffna Military high command did not officially confirm the attack.

Following the attack, the SLA closed the A9 between the two Thenmaraadchi towns, Kodikaamam and Chaavakachcheri, for several hours from 4:30 p.m., residents said.

This is the third attack during the last five days in the same general area.

Thursday two SLA soldiers were killed according to unconfirmed reports, and on Friday one soldier was killed and another injured during attacks by unknown armed men.
