The Sri Lanka Army (SLA) and Police conducted cordon and search operations in several parts of the city of Colombo Tuesday morning from 9:00 a.m., sources in Colombo said. The special operation has followed the claymore attack Monday evening targeting a bus carrying Special Task Police (STF) personnel from Ratmalana in which eight were killed and 35 others injured.
Kotahena, Borella, Wellawatte, Bambalapitiya, Mount Lavinia, and Pettah areas were subjected to the search. Vehicles were stopped and subjected to severe search. Pedestrians were also interrogated and their belongings were subjected to minute checks. Several roads were closed for vehicular traffic, causing traffic congestion, sources said. The operation concluded around 11 a.m. Four suspects have been taken to Ratmalana Police station for further interrogation, Police said.
