Relatives of three fishermen from Analaitheevu (Analaitheevu) island have reported at the Jaffna office of Human Rights Commission (HRC) office and at the office of Jaffna Fisheries Consortium Tuesday that the men have not returned after going fishing on May 17.
The missing fishermen have been identified as Jeganathan Jeyanthan, 24,Velautham Thevan, 30, and Thangarasa Jegan, 22. The three men are said to have left for fishing in catamaran early morning and since there was heavy rain and strong winds on that day, the relatives have expressed fear that the men may have encountered trouble with their boats in mid-sea. Commanding officer of the Sri Lankan Navy (SLN) base at Karainagar has also been notified, the relatives of the missing men said.
