A team of police officials of the Terrorist Intelligence Bureau arrested Tiran Alles, publisher of the Sinhala weekly Mawbima, Wednesday evening. He was taken into custody from a private hospital where he was warded, media sources in Colombo said.

Mr.Alles was earlier the Chairman of the Civil Aviation Authority when Mangala Samaraweera was the Minister of Ports and Civil Aviation.

Tiran Alles worked hard for the victory of Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapakse along with former ministers Mangala Samaraweera and Sripathi Sooriyarachchi, sacked minister and a parliamentarian of the ruling party United Peoples Freedom Alliance (UPFA).

Tiran Alles also became a political enemy of Mr. Mahinda Rajapakse following the sacking of Samaraweera and Sooriayarachchi from the cabinet.

Alles was also a close confidante of Mahinda Rajapakse during the presidential election campaign
