JVP warns government against further fuel price increase

The Sinhala nationalist Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) Friday warned the government led by Sri Lanka's President Mahinda Rajapakse that people would be forced to stage a massive agitation if the fuel price is increased again. JVP politburo in a statement appealed to the government to take immediate steps to bring down the cost of living by reducing prices of essential goods and fuel.

JVP issued this warning amid reports that the government is seriously contemplating another fuel price increase during June citing such increase in the world market.

The government should stop corruption and other malpractices instead of increasing prices of essential food items and fuel, JVP further said.
