12 Tamils arrested in Wattala

Sri Lanka Army (SLA) and police, in a combined cordon and search operation in Wattala in western province, arrested twelve Tamil civilians Friday, sources in Colombo said. Majority of the arrested are natives of Northeast, and they are being detained in Wattala police station and being questioned by the Terrorist Intelligence Unit officer.

Police further said they were taken into custody when they failed to prove their identity by producing national identity cards and other legal documents.

Some of the suspects had failed to give satisfactory reason for their stay in the location.

Some of the suspects were staying in private lodges and the rest of them with their relatives
