Flooding risk in Vanni

The monsoon rains have started to pour down and the water level of the major reservoirs in the Vanni have started to rise. For a period of 24 hours ending Wednesday morning (October 28), a rainfall of 17.8 mm had been recorded in the Akkarayankulam area.

Water level of Akkarayankulam is 11 feet, while the water level at Iranaimadu is 17 feet 7 inches and 2 feet 4 inches at Kanagambigaikulam.

Officials say the present weather condition will be unfavourable for the advancement of the security forces.

Meanwhile the Voice of Tigers (VoT) said in its night transmission today that an LTTE member, Thamilarasi (Subramaniam Sumitha of Puthukudiyruppu), died in a confrontation with the Sri Lankan Army yesterday, October 28, in Mankulam.
