Police impose new transport restriction in the East

[TamilNet, Sunday, 10 June 2007, 09:35 GMT]
Lorries carrying goods from Batticaloa and Ampaa'rai districts to Colombo must unload for police inspection at Naavaladi in Vaazhaichcheanai and Maakoa area, and the goods transferred to different lorries bound to Colombo, according to a new directive issued by the Batticaloa district Senior Police Commissioner H. M. D. Herath, sources in Batticaloa said. The rule, which comes to effect Sunday (today), also applies to Colombo lorries bringing in goods to the East.

The Commissioner explained this new restriction to the traders of Ka'luvaagnchikkudi, Kaaththaankudi and Ea'raavoor in a meeting Friday held in Batticaloa.

Lorries transporting news papers, gas and wheat flour to the Eastern province will be exempted from this restriction, the Commissioner informed.
