5 Tamil youths shot dead in 2 separate incidents in Batticaloa

Sri Lanka Army (SLA) shot dead four Tamil youths in retaliation when unidentified persons lobbed a hand grenade Tuesday around 11:35 a.m., on the SLA street patrol unit at Naakathampiraan koayil Veethi, Chiththaa'ndi in Ea'raavoor police division in Batticaloa district, Ea'raavoor police said. Meanwhile, unknown persons abducted a Tamil youth Monday around 8:15 p.m., at Maavadiveampu in Ea'raavoor police division and shot him dead.

The victim abducted and shot dead was identified as S. Manoharan, 22, of Boundary Road in Vanthaa'rumoolai.

Ea'raavoor police recovered his body with gun shot wounds, along the railway track at Maavadiveampu Village Officer Street.

Manoharan was abducted while returning home after attending some personal errand at Chiththaa'ndi.

Chiththaa'ndi is located 20 km north of Batticaloa town.
