SLA artillery barrage destroys A9 entry point to Vanni amid celebrations in Colombo

The main entry point to Vanni, located on A9 route at Pu'lyangku'lam, was destroyed in targeted artillery and Multi Barrel Rocket Launcher (MBRL) fire by the Sri Lanka Army (SLA) Wednesday night, LTTE's Vavuniya District Political Head, S. Gnanam told TamilNet Thursday. The attack on the entry point to Vanni comes as the Sri Lankan establishment in Colombo was projecting a celebration in the wake of Tiger forces discarding conventional confrontations with the Sri Lankan forces at Kudumpimalai, a hat shaped hill in the middle of the Vadamunai region, surrounded by large swathes of forest, northwest of Batticaloa.



The artillery attack by the SLA on the only civilian entry point to Vanni, was aimed at cutting the civilian link, already strained to the limit, Mr. Gnanam said.

MBRL rockets exploded also near the Pu'liangku'lam hospital premises that has sustained damage in artillery fire three days ago.

Gnanam said that the Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission and the International Committee of Red Cross (ICRC) would be contacted by the LTTE to inspect the attack on the civil facilities.
