Tamil politicians meet President

Douglas Devananda, leader of the EPDP, T.Sidharthan, leader of the PLOTE and S.Premachandran of EPRLF met the Sri Lankan President Chandrika Kumaratunge yesterday, at Temple Trees, the official residence of the president.

The other issues which were discussed at the meeting, according to the sources, were governments announcement on a cut in relief to displaced people in the Vanni, a contradiction in number of displaced people in Vanni given by the Government Agents there and Defence Ministry officials, and the ban on kerosene to areas not under the control of the Government troops.

However no solutions were found to these issues. The president told them that she would discuss the issues with her officials.

The President also told them that the Sri Lankan Army will be looking after the security of the local council members.

The Sri Lankan Army Commander Lt.Gen. Rohan Daluwatte, the Inspector General of Police Lucky Kodituwakku, Jaffna SLA commander Mj.Gen. Ashoka Wejewardane, Secretary to the Ministry of Defence, Mr. Chandrananda de Silva were also present at the meeting.
