German officials visit Vavuniya

Two representatives of the Ministry of Economic Co-operation and Development of Germany visited Vavuniya on Monday 9 November to evaluate the projects of the GTZ in the district.

Dr.S.Kliengebiel from the University of Berlin and Dr. J.A.Roesel from the Ministry for Economic Co-operation and Development (BMZ) met the GA Vavuniya K.Ganesh, government rehabilitation officials and representatives of NGOs working in the district yesterday.

They discussed ways of improving the work of the GTZ in the region and keen to know the resettled and relocated families were returning to normal life.

Meanwhile, the Team Leader GTZ in Vavuniya Manfred Behnsen said the Ministry for Economic Co-operation and Development has sent teams of officials to conflict regions in 6 countries to evaluate the project works implemented by GTZ.

He said that the German Ministry has sent teams to one country in Central America, 4 countries in Africa and to Sri Lanka to assess the positive impact of the conflict situations on GTZ projects.

The German Ministry representatives visited Trincomalee today and are expected to visit Kandy later. They also met government and NGO officials in Colombo.
