[TamilNet, Saturday, 15 September 2007, 13:49 GMT]
Liberation Tigers and Sri Lanka Navy (SLN) clashed in Ki'laali seas for nearly an hour starting from 8:00 a.m. Saturday, the Palaly military command said. Liberation Tigers said they attacked Sri Lanka Navy (SLN) boats attempting to infiltrate the stretch of seas under LTTE's control, resulting in exchange of fire. The SLN said that they took defensive action to confront LTTE boats entering Ki'laali seas.
No details of injuries or casualties were reported. The clashes occurred amid increasing number of incidents along northern front lines including Muhamaalai, Naakar Koayil and Ki'laali. Kearaitheevu, Sanguppiddi and Ki'laali area of seas close to the southern coast of Jaffna peninsula is considered by the LTTE and the Sri Lanka military as key strategic area for the security of Jaffna. Suspicious movement of boats in this stretch draws immediate fire from both warring parties.
