Sri Lanka Army (SLA) in Jaffna, in response to the recent increasing number of attacks against their troops in Jaffna peninsula, launched search operations and intensive checking in Jaffna town, Valikaamam areas, and coastal areas of Vadamaraadchi beginning Monday morning, sources in Jaffna said.

SLA troops, manning several check posts and sentry points along the main roads in the peninsula and other roads leading into Jaffna town, subjected all vehicles, general public, and pedestrians entering Jaffna town to intensive checking.

The people going into Jaffna town and the SLA High Security Zone (HSZ) had to undergo thorough search by the SLA troops.

Security measures in Kurunakar and the Jaffna lagoon areas were intensified, and SLA troops in the sentry posts fired in the air frequently to keep off possible attackers.
