2 civilians seek HRC protection, One missing in Jaffna

A youth and a family man from Thenmaraadchi sought protection with Human Rights Commission (HRC) Jaffna, Wednesday. Meanwhile, a father of three children from Kurunakar in Jaffna town is reported missing since Tuesday, according to complaints made by his wife to HRC Jaffna Wednesday.
The youth seeking protection is a resident of Kachchai in Chaavakachcheari north and the family man, a father of three children, is from Kachchai, Va'ra'ni in Yaththaalai. HRC officials made the necessary arrangements to place the two civilians in the protective custody of Jaffna Prison. The man reported missing is Denis, 29, from Rajasingham Veethi in Thirunakar, Kurunakar. He had left home Tuesday to attend matters related to his work and had not returned home. Meanwhile, there is a rising trend in civilian deaths and abductions in the Thenmaraadchi area caused by the SLA and SLA-backed paramilitary, civil society sources in Thenmaraadchi said . Two college students from Thenmaraadchi sought protection with HRC Tuesday due to death threats from Sri Lanka Army (SLA) backed paramilitaries. Monday, a family with two children and the other with one child, from Thaava'lai, Va'ra'ni, Yaththalai and Meesaalai areas in Thenmaraadchi sought protection with the HRC.
