SLA trooper killed, another injured in Point Pedro

Unknown attackers hurled a grenade at the Sri Lanka Army SLA foot patrol unit Friday around 2:00 p.m, killing a trooper and seriously injuring another near first mile post in Point Pedro in Vadmaraadchi, along Jaffna-Point Pedro road.

The SLA foot patrol unit was engaged in measures ensuring the security of a convoy of military vehicles expected along Jaffna-Point Pedro road.

The dead and the injured troops were taken to Palaali Military base.

SLA launched a large scale cordon and search operation in the area immediately after the attack.

Students going home from schools which closed for the day at 2:00 p.m as usual were greatly inconvenienced by the intensified search operation.

SLA has not released any information about the attack and the consequences of it.
