7 seek protection with HRC, 2 youths missing in Jaffna

Six civilians from Thenmaraadchi and one from Vadamaraadchi, all between the ages of 24 to 56, sought protection with Human Rights Commission (HRC) Jaffna office on Monday due to death threats by Sri Lanka Army (SLA) and SLA-backed paramilitaries, sources in Jaffna said.
The number of civilians from Thenmaraadchi area seeking protection has reached alarming proportions amid deteriorating security environment, civil society sources in Jaffna said. The 56-year-old man was seeking safety for the second time in the protective custody in Jaffna prison. Meanwhile, two men from Jaffna, Yogarasa Sathiyarupan, 28, a resident of Koddadi in Jaffna town and Thilainathan Suthaharan, 27, the father of a child and resident of Maanipay road, are reported missing since Friday, according to complaints made by family members to HRC Jaffna.
