3 civilians killed, 30 wounded in bomb blast in Chunnaakam, Jaffna

Three civilians were killed and 30 wounded following an explosion near Chunnaakam market town in Valikaamam in the Jaffna district Thursday around 10:00 a.m. Legal sources said the Chunnaakaam Police has told the Court that one policeman was wounded in the blast. Police claimed that a Claymore mine had targeted a police vehicle.

Nagamuththu Rasiah, 60, from Chunnaakam Sabapathy Center for the displaced, Selliah Asokan, 42, from Mallaakam, and Seenivasan Kanesarajah, 49, from Poonaari Maraththadi in Kokuvil West, Jaffna were identified as those killed in the incident.

13 civilians with serious wounds were taken to Jaffna hospital. 17 civilians with minor wounds were treated at Thellippazhai hospital.

The blast site has been cordoned off by the military and police, and no one was allowed to reach the site to verify the details of the blast.
