More than 400 unemployed graduates in Batticaloa district continued their protest rally for the fourth day Thursday morning at 9:00 a.m. outside the Zonal Educational office demanding the government to recruit them into public service. All activities of the education office were interrupted by this protest campaign, civil society sources in Batticaloa said.
Police prevented the protesters when they attempted to move towards Gandhi square. The protestors then returned to the education offices and continued their protest shouting slogans. A spokesperson for the protesters said that they were forced to stage this protest because no appointments have been provided for the more than one thousand who graduated during the last two years.
