6 Tamils arrested in Gampaha

Six Tamil civilians were taken into custody by the Sri Lanka Army (SLA) in a cordon and search operation conducted in Gampaha town, situated 24 km northeast of Colombo, from Friday night till dawn of Saturday. The detainees were all staying with their relatives and lodges at that time of arrest.

The detainees failed to prove their identity with legal documents and also to give valid reasons for their stay in the locations, police said.

Gampaha police said the arrested are being detained in the police station and are being interrogated by the Terrorist Intelligence Division to find out whether they were involved in any crime.

Gampaha town is located in Colombo district in the western province.
