Paramilitary member shot dead in Ea'raavoor

Unidentified armed men shot dead a paramilitary person of Karuna group with a pistol Thursday around 8:00 a.m at Maavadiveampu in Ea'raavoor police division in Batticaloa district, according to Ea'raavoor police.

The victim was identified as Suthan alias Sivalingam Chandrakumar, 19, a staff at Chengkaladi Karuna Office.

He was shot dead by armed men who lay in ambush when he went to the shop 50 m from his house in Kaa'li Koayil Veethy in Maavadiveambu where he had come on Wednesday.

Karuna group members recovered the body and handed it over to Chengkaladi hospital for inquest into death, the police said.

Mavadiveampu is located 17 km north of Batticaloa along Trincomalee-Batticaloa road.
